The Portland Press Herald just reported that the owners of Tempo Dulu in Portland will open a new bar called Opium, "featuring cocktails that are barely legal."

Several local activists and community facebook pages have called the name of the new bar inappropriate, or have questioned the use of the name, especially because of Maine's opioid epidemic and rising addiction and treatment levels across the state.

The new bar uses phrases like "not even the ice is ordinary," and "totally addictive" on its marketing material, along with the allure of drinks being "barely legal" appearing across some of its branding.

While some voices have criticized the new name, others are embracing it.

Opium will have a soft opening May 25 and then open officially June 14.
