Here’s My Top 3 Picks of the Worst Streets in Portland, Maine
I love my city. Portland, Maine has the entirety of my heart but that still doesn't mean streets like Commercial St. doesn’t need to figure out a better system.
Calling a spade a spade here, love you to death Portland, but can we finally get it together downtown? Please?
Commercial St. Portland, Maine
I think the entire city would agree with me that on Commercial St. we need to find a better solution to help tourists walk across the road into the bars so that we don't accidentally run one of them over.
You might think that was the most morbid thing you've ever read, but I hate how true that is. It's like playing frogger but with humans and the prize is jail.
Maine tourists are out here running rapid through the streets, and ignoring the crosswalks in their matching onesies and pink feather light-up 'bride' cups. They'll go right from Commercial St. up to the next street on the list.
Silver St. Commercial St. Pub
If you were to ask anybody in Maine what the most authentic, original bar would be downtown the answer would be here. Just a gem of an old bar named after the small street it's nestled into where you can only go one way and its against the sidewalk.

Bachelorette Capital of America
Besides Nashville, believe it or not Portland, Maine has become a huge hub for bachelor/ bachelorette parties. Wharf St. is to blame for that one but in the best way possible.
Wharf St. Portland
Now this is where the funny business goes down. This little ally is lined with awesome bars like Bonfire Country Bar, but you might have to break a leg just to get inside, literally. Who else is ready for a straight away, freshly paved, straight ally?
It's just a literal bumpy strip of little casual dive bars unevenly distributed over a mile of cobble stones (which is actually pretty damn historic but I hate history so I'm not diving into why).
Yes the cobble stone bumpy road has me fighting for my life even in sneakers, but tons of locals say it would be a crime to re-do the now-famous alley to make it the pedestrian walkway it was once made to be in the late 70's.
Oh well, with history will come tough locations but maybe that's the beauty of it all.
