The University of Maine Police Department just added a new member to its team, and it will make you say, "awwwwww."

Meet the aptly named Bear, the department's new comfort K-9. It's almost as if they named it after the university's bear mascot. Maybe? Maybe.

Either way, this pup is super adorable, and the police thankfully shared multiple photos of him on Facebook to give your week a real dose of happiness.

The department highlighted that Bear will be "dedicated to supporting the well-being of ... students, faculty, staff and community members."

This cute little dog is an English Labrador Retriever and definitely knows how to wear his work vest with adorable style.

The social media post noted that Bear is teamed up with Sgt. Jamey Dover to "promote wellness and community engagement." So if you're on the campus, you might just see Bear in person sharing some love and comfort.

What Does a Police Comfort Dog Do?

You may be surprised to know that there are a number of police departments in Maine that have comfort dogs.

The Portland Police Department added Archie to its ranks in April 2025, and the Topsham Police Department introduced Garver to its team just a month later, just to name a few.

An article from AT&T Connects highlights the positive impact that comfort dogs have and their efforts to "ease the trauma for individuals impacted by violence, tragedy, or traumatic events."

And truly, the main goal of a comfort dog is to be a calm, friendly, and loving presence for someone in need, according to US Service Animals.

I bet Bear is up to that task.
