Despite serious damage from the December storm, Meserve's Market in Wells, Maine, is back!

The owner Bob Meserve told News Center Maine that they weren't quite ready to reopen, but they just couldn't wait any longer! They had been closed for six weeks because of the first of many destructive storms Maine has had to deal with.

Meserve's was closed for 45 days, and had to do extensive renovations due to damage, including new floors, ceilings, and lights. Just the financial aspect of that was daunting. Bob said to News Center Maine,

Dealing with the unknown. 'Is the money going to come in? How am I going to pay the contractors?' How is the insurance....there's a lot of unknowns.

But, that's when the community who loves and supports you lets you know that it's going to be okay. Maybe Merserve's knew they were popular, but not having them around for so long proved that they were loved and missed. On their recent opening day, they had neighbors pouring in. Some even brought gifts! You know you are loved when people want to show you how much you mean to them by bringing you gifts!

What damage happened to Meserve's Market?

It was shocking when a tree crashed into the back of the building. Then the rain poured in, and they were left with everything needing rebuilding. They scrambled to save as much inventory as possible. Then they faced the long battle to recover and continue on the tradition and routine for so many Mainers.
