While it's great to see new restaurants open up in early 2025, the end has sadly come for some more Maine businesses this year.

March marked the closure of several establishments in the state, including a pub, an ice cream shop, a bar, and a coffeehouse.

Let's take a look at what places we have to say goodbye to for good.

Maine Craft Distilling announced on Facebook in January that it was closing The Public House for the winter.

Unfortunately, temporary closure would become permanent.

According to Portland Food Map in March, the restaurant and tasting room would not be reopening, and Maine Craft Distilling would instead focus on their canned cocktail business, which now makes up about 90 percent of their sales.

The last day of business for it would be March 2.

According to WMTW, The Frog and Turtle was Maine's first gastropub and opened in 2007.

Carolina Sports & Spirits, which has been around for over 20 years, announced that it would be closing on March 29.

That said, the end of an era means the start of something new. According to a Facebook post, Salt North Taproom will be the new venture at the Union Street location.

The Facebook post states it won't be just a name rebrand but a whole new thing: "Bangor’s new bar-resto-lounge where energy meets elegance and community meets culture."

A Coffeehouse in Waterville, Maine

A Coffehouse announced on Facebook that it would be closing for good on March 30.

The social media post highlights that the coffee place has only been open about a year but that the "business model is not economically sustainable."

Like many of the other closing businesses, A Coffehouse expressed love and thanks for its workers and customers.
