Chipotle in Augusta closed

It wasn't that long ago that the Chipotle location in Augusta closed. After employees rallied to unionize over the summer, officials decided to close the location altogether at the beginning of summer.

Even with the closing of the Augusta location, Maine isn't exactly hurting for Chipotle locations, since -- according to Google --  they still exist in Portland, South Portland, Westbrook, Auburn, Bangor and Windham. But if the rumors are true, a brand new Chipotle could pop up in Maine at some point.

Chipotle coming to Waterville?

According to a leaked "notice of intent to file" over the weekend by Giri Hotel Management, LLC on September 23, 2022, an application has been filed for:

Development of a 2,325 square-foot Chipotle Restaurant with counter and drive-through window service, and 8,226 square-feet of commercial retail space.

The application goes on to detail the estimated traffic that the proposed project would generate during weekday and weekend peak hours, before listing that the proposed location is 375 Main Street in Waterville. What's currently at that address?

The Best Western Plus in Waterville. And who owns that hotel? None other than Giri Hotel Management, LLC. According to the Portland Press Herald, the plan is to redevelop the hotel's current event center and conference hall sections into the new Chipotle location as well as other commercial retail spaces.

According to that application, if approved, construction on the brand new Waterville location of Chipotle (and the other retail spaces) would begin in the Spring of 2023.
