Depression Diminishing as Brighter Days Ahead for Maine, New Hampshire

It was recently highlighted that although February was predicted to bring a massive snowstorm to areas of Maine and New Hampshire, not only did that never happen but in fact the average snowfall for the month has been less than half the normal average.

And, while that's been nothing but bummer news for skiers, boarders, and tubers in the area, for New Englanders that aren't really a big fan of winter weather, they've truly been living their best lives over what's been a very mild winter.

And their lives are only about to get better for two reasons.

According to the monthly Accuweather forecast for New Hampshire (the Manchester-area, specifically), the only upcoming days that show a possibility of any kind of snowfall is March 28 and March 31 -- both days that are calling for highs in the mid-40s.

Ironically, further north, the monthly Accuweather forecast for Maine (the Portland-area, specifically), the only upcoming day with any snowfall in the forecast is April 1 (no joke), where a high in the lower 40s is being forecast.

As we know, though, it's impossible to 100% accurately predict the weather, as exhibited by the massive snowstorm expected to hit Northern New England in mid-February that never came, leading to New England meteorologists to be trashed on social media.

But one thing that is predictable? The second reason New Englanders are about to live their best lives.

Daylight Savings Time Starts on Sunday, March 10, 2024

Finally, after what always feels like at least a full year of suffering (although, there are the people that enjoy it getting darker earlier), seasonal depression of a lack of daylight will be ending the second Sunday in March, as "spring ahead" an hour in the overnight hours of Saturday, March 9 into Sunday, March 10.

Granted, we've seen the daylight extend for a while now, with the sunsetting after 5p and full darkness usually not set in until sometime between 5:30p-6p, but still. For those who thrive on longer days of light, your time is about to come.

Daylight Savings Time in Maine

One last thing. As we approach the changing of the clocks once again, some Mainers may be shocked by it, as last year, a bill was introduced to keep Maine exempt from having to change the clocks anymore, after changing back to Eastern Standard Time back in November 2023.

That bill, according to WGME, however, was put on hold and remains that way as of this writing. Will it ever pass? Maybe we'll find out someday, but for now, New England gets a little bit brighter, for longer, very shortly.
