COVID-19 has impacted us in ways we never expected. For many, some semblance of routine is starting to emerge, for others, there's still uncertainty of the future and loss.

As the economy begins to reopen it will likely be rocky along the way. We've heard the phrase, "unprecedented times" so frequently that it has almost lost its meaning. When you really think about it, it means we're all making it up as we go. Trying to work with the information available at the time. We're constantly modifying, changing, and adapting. There's a lot of trial and error and there will continue to be trial and error in the days, weeks, and even months to come.

As businesses reopen the risk of exposure grows and businesses have to decide how they're going to handle situations where an employee has been exposed or tested positive for COVID-19. An example of that came by way of a popular restaurant in Portland after one of their employees received the dreaded phone call informing them of exposure.

Salvage BBQ & Smokehouse took to Facebook to make the announcement stating it was their duty to inform their valued patrons.

In the post, they state that after less than an hour on the clock on Saturday, the employee received a call that they had been exposed to COVID-19 and it was at that time they were sent home. They later tested positive for the virus.

Salvage is doing everything they can to keep the rest of their staff and patrons safe and is shutting down for a minimum of 14 days and they are testing their entire staff.

I applaud Salvage for taking these steps and for the employee for being transparent about their situation. It's not the first story and it won't be the last story of its kind. Hopefully businesses will continue to take all the necessary precautions and people will assess risk on an indificual basis. I know I'm looking forward to getting back to Salvage for some great food.
