Firefighters are on the scene of a fire that broke out early Wednesday morning at the Magic Lantern Theater in Bridgton. Route 302 through downtown Bridgton is closed to allow fire equipment in to battle the blaze.

There aren't many details at the moment, but as we learn more, we'll update you here.

The original Magic Lantern theater building opened in 1929 as the Meserve Theater and went through several name changes but has been the Magic Lantern for decades.

The original building was torn down in 2006 to build a more modern building with three theaters while still retaining the charm and look of an early 20th century theater. The theaters are named the Meserve, Mayfair and the Brookside after previous names.

UPDATE: We have word the fire is now out thanks to the quick response of area fire departments. Daniel Harden of Bridgton reports that the damage appears minimal from what the could see. More updates as we receive them.
