Has Anybody Else Noticed the Infestation of Brown Seagulls in Portland, Maine Lately?
I know this sounds like such a silly headline, but I truly mean it HAHA!
Being a Mainer, especially if you're a Portland local, dealing with seagulls every day is pretty typical. However, every so often I see a brown bird (what I thought was a seagull), and it catches my eye.
They intrigue me, and it seems now more than ever they're romping around the Old Port in ways I've never seen before.
Before you come after me for incorrectly calling this bird a brown seagull and not a Herring Gull, just know I recently did my research and this is what I found. Those "lone seagulls" walking around by themselves are not just the outcast of the group because they're born a different color.
They're actually just baby seagulls.
According to allaboutbirds.com, the confusion is the fact that it takes these cuties 4 years to reach adulthood. Once they reach adulthood they'll look like the other gulls which is hilarious to me because some of them I've seen are bigger than a full-grown seagull.
Anyways, now that we know what they are, has anybody else noticed that they walk around storefronts like they own the place?
I respect the confidence, but they're really also very loud when you walk by them. Their screech almost sounds like something's wrong, but Google says that's just how they are.
Ok end rant. I know you've noticed this too, don't lie.
