You and a friend could spend a day with the four-legged game wardens of Maine!

In May, one lucky person will get the chance to hang with a group of cute and wicked smart Labrador retrievers and their Maine Warden Service handlers.

This is the first Keeper of the Maine Outdoors Experience being offered by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. Through next winter, they will hold contests to give 4 lucky winners a day-in-the-life experience with a wildlife biologist or game wardens to learn how they protect Maine wildlife or serve in the Maine outdoors.

The department’s first experience will give one person and a friend a day with Tika, Storm, Ruby, Piper, Breezy and other pups from the Maine Warden Service K-9 program. The winner will go to a team training with the dogs and their Game Warden handlers, learn about each dog’s specialty, and help with training scenarios and exercises. And best of all...lots of selfies!

How do you get in on this? The Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife will pick the experience winner from entries completed of a five question Keeper Experience quiz. You also have to be at least 18 years old.  The deadline is coming up on May 13th and your day of doggy fun will be Tuesday May 21st (rain date Wednesday the 22nd).

Other Keeper of the Maine Outdoors Experiences will happen during the summer with a Maine Wildlife Park private after-hours tour, in the fall on the water or at a fish hatchery with a fisheries biologist, and during winter joining biologists on a visit to a black bear den. You get to go to a black bear den!!
