We Now Know What’s Replacing The Whiskey Kitchen in Augusta, Maine
Since way before I moved to Central Maine, the storefront at 228 Water Street in Augusta has been some kind of eatery or watering hole.
The space, which got its start as a department store back in the 1880s, has been Charlemagne's, a cocktail bar named Circa 1885, and country-themed bars as The Raging Bull and Whiskey Kitchen.
After operating as a country bar (under the names Raging Bull and Whiskey Kitchen) since 2019, the establishment temporarily closed in September of 2025.
Now, it appears the Whiskey Kitchen has changed hands.
The Capital Bar and Grille
According to a post on Facebook, there is a new restaurant/bar coming to Water Street in Augusta.
A post on Facebook announced the business, but did not provide many details.
The pager explains that the business is located at 228 Water Street (the location formerly occupied by The Whiskey Kitchen) and the intro explains:
Welcome to the Capital city's newest hot spot for elevated pub food and fare!
No opening date has been announced.
As we learn more about the business's menu, offerings, and when they are planning to open, we will pass the information on to you.
Based on some poking around we have done on Facebook it looks like the owners have extensive experience in the bar and restaurant business, so this new establishment should be amazing.
As their next door neighbors on Water Street we are really excited to be welcoming them to downtown Augusta.
