Maine State Trooper Injured During Domestic Violence Call

A couple from Maine are facing various charges following a Saturday night incident in Limerick.

According to a press release form the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, at about 11 PM on Saturday, Maine State Troopers from the Southern Field Troop responded to a domestic violence situation on Long Street in Limerick.

A neighbor had reported that 41-year-old Justin Savage, of Limerick, had assaulted his girlfriend, 26-year-old Shawna Morse.  The alleged assault reportedly took place in front of the couple's home.

Upon arrival, troopers detained Savage.  During the course of their investigation, he reportedly became combative.

The press release goes on to say:

Savage landed on a Trooper, Sgt. Adam Schmidt, breaking his ankle. In an effort to escape custody Savage also bit Trooper Jamie Fenderson causing two lacerations on his hand

At this time, Morse reportedly stepped in to help Savage.

Both Savage and Morse were arrested and taken to the York County Jail.  Savage has been charged with Domestic Violence Assault, Assault on a Police Officer, Refusing to Submit to Arrest, and Disorderly Conduct.  She has been charged with Obstructing Government Administration and Refusal to Submit to Arrest.

The press release explains that Sergeant Schmidt was taken to the hospital and released.  However, it appears that he will need to have surgery to fix his ankle.
