It’s Championship or Bust Monday Night for the Maine Celtics

Nobody said it was going to be easy.

The Celtics, the G-League affiliate of the NBA's Boston Celtics, fell to the Oklahoma City Blue 99-89 in Game 2 of the NBA G-League Finals. The loss means Maine and OKC will square off in a winner-take-all Game 3 on Monday night. That game will be played back here in Portland. It would be the first championship in franchise history for either team.

It has been a remarkable year for Maine, who finished the regular season with the second-best record in the conference. The Celtics received a bye for the first round of the playoffs, followed by consecutive wins over Delaware Blue Coats and the Long Island Nets. This set them up with a matchup in the finals against the Blue, which now comes down to just one game.

While Maine dominated Game 1, it was an entirely different story in Game 2. OKC put on a tremendous defensive performance to limit the Celtics. Maine shot just 33% on the night, and was seemingly on the back foot for the entire game.

Maine still managed to have four players score in double figures. Drew Peterson led with 29 points, including six made buckets from three-point land. Jordan Walsh and Joe Wieskamp both went for 13 points, and JD Davison finished with 11.

The Celtics remain one win away from bringing home the first-ever championship in franchise history, one that got its start back in 2009. Game 3 of the series will be played Monday night, April 15, back at the Portland Expo. It will be the final game of a season that has already been the most successful in Maine's history.
