There Was a Runaway Boat on This New Hampshire Lake

Don't get me wrong, I love a little nautical nonsense, especially in the summertime. A friend with a boat is a good friend to have. However, driving a boat is very intimidating to me, and don't even get me started on parking the darn thing. Lots can go wrong when you are operating a water vessel!

What would you do if you saw a runaway boat?

A runaway boat is a boat that is still in motion but no one is operating it; an unmanned vessel, if you will.

I am going to be honest with you, I don't know what the heck I would do. I would feel the need to report it, but by the time the appropriate authorities arrived, some serious damage could already be done!

This exact scene happened on Lake Winnipesaukee last week, and thank heavens for the fast actions of a 17-year-old from Massachusetts named Brady Procon. Had Brady not been in the right place at the right time, this story could have had a very different ending.

Brady Procon was out on the lake with his dad when he was alerted about the runaway boat. According to Fox News, the mast of a sailing student’s boat hit the throttle of a sailing instructor’s boat, and the instructor was tossed into the water. This left the boat with no one operating it, and it started zooming around in circles in Smith's Cove.

Brady quickly responded by jumping onto a neighbor's jet ski to approach the boat. Without hesitation, he leaped onto the out-of-control boat and successfully brought it to a stop.

The video of his amazing coordination and bravery has gone viral, and most importantly, no one was hurt.

Looking back on the experience, Brady says that while the whole ordeal was a bit scary, he found the situation thrilling and wouldn't hesitate to do it again. Does this young lad have a future as a first responder? Time will tell! But it's safe to say he works well under pressure.
