Kwame’s Good Food Diaries: Maine’s Southern Style Eatin’ at Po’ Boys
I recently had the pleasure of going to Po' Boys & Pickles on Forrest Ave.
Since arriving in this city, I have heard nothing but good things about this restaurant, and when told there was a location with parking, I was on it!
Upon walking into the restaurant, I could tell this was a 'downhome' style place, no real frills or luxury as far as seating was concerned, nor was that my expectation.
I just wanted good food that made my inner fat boy happy. I ordered the oyster and shrimp sandwich, which arrived on a 6-inch hoagie roll with lettuce, tomato, chipotle mayo, cheese, and, of course, the seafood in question.
This sandwich hit my mouth like a kung fu kick to the throat; all of the flavors were everything I was promised.
Whoever would have thought that a back wood southern-style restaurant would end up here in Portland Maine, and let me say this, that flavor was authentic.
I had to contain my enthusiasm in a restaurant full of people and not moan ooh and ahhh out loud.
Have you tried Po Boys before? If so, what did you think?
