Yesterday afternoon a kayaker's boat was found overturned in the ocean just outside of Kittery. Dan Vardell, Jr, 53 of Portsmouth was last seen preparing his kayak to launch out of Portsmouth. Concern was raised when his kayak was found overturned by a boater near Wood Island but not the operator himself. As you can imagine, many different scenarios could have played out, especially after us being weeks off of a shark in on the central coast of Maine.

So far, there is no evidence of shark activity or foul play. The New Hampshire Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Kittery Police, and the Maine Marine Department are all partnering in the search for Mr. Vardell. According to WMTW Channel 8 out of Portland, ME, the Maine Marine Department said they would continue the search until tomorrow evening at dark. It no longer becomes a search and rescue mission but a recovery mission.
