2025 is here, and for many, it's the start of new beginnings.

Unfortunately, for some Maine restaurants, it would be the final chapter by the end of January.

It's sad to see a business have to close its doors for good, whether they've been open for a short time or for decades.

One of the first places to close right after the new year was bon Vivant in Lewiston.

According to WMTW, the place, which previously housed a Subway was turned into a "casual, fine-dining restaurant with 48 seats."

Sadly, bon Vivant, which opened in July 2023, announced on Facebook that it would be closing, noting that downtown Lewiston just isn’t the right place for a high-end restaurant right now due to industry trends and local economic conditions.

Why are Maine restaurants closing?

Once again, rising costs, staff shortages, rent, etc., are some of the contributing factors to the closings.

And as you can see, both big chain restaurants and small local spots in the state can be affected.

So, enjoy your favorite restaurants and keep supporting them, and hopefully, they'll stay around for years to come.
