Maine Has the 4th Sexiest Accent in The US & I Have Some Thoughts
An article popped up on my Facebook this morning titled, "Boston Accent Ranked Second Sexiest in America, Survey Says" from NBC Boston. I clicked because when I think sexy I don't necessarily think about the dialogue in The Departed or that Hyundai "Smaht Pahk" commercial.
(John Krasinski and Chris Evans however...)
What was even more surprising, the Maine accent came in at #4.
WHAT?
Look, I'm a lifelong Mainer. I find the Maine accent familiar, charming, like home, but sexy? Not so much.
Truth be told I don't know if I find any American accent to be truly sexy.
When I think quintessential Maine accent I think of comedian Bob Marley. Imagine for a moment Bob whispering your ear, "Hey deah, how 'bout you and I go upta camp and knock some boots?"
Turned on yet?
Don't get me wrong, there is no judgment here. It's just not my cup of tea as a means to get in the mood. If you want to wake up to Brenda telling you you look "wicked friggin' hot, bub" first thing in the morning that's awesome. More power to you.
I should also add, I have a Maine accent. It's not thick but I do throw "wicked" in at every opportunity. Those who aren't from Maine don't shy away from making fun of me for it.
Am I totally off base here? Is there something about dropping the "r" that screams sexy that I just don't get? Let me know via the app!
