Maine Is One of The Only Places To See Stars This Side of the Country
Outside of its few higher population cities, Maine has thousands of square miles that are barely inhabited, which make stargazing easier than ever. We are unique in our opportunity to see the night sky so vividly, especially this side of the country.
The Dark Site Finder shows light pollution data from all over the world, and it's clear to see that the east coast is responsible for nearly all of the United States' light.
Maine, in contrast, only has one red spot over Portland, then fades to orange and yellow around Bangor and Augusta, with the rest of the state a peaceful green/purple or grey.
It's no wonder Maine is every east coaster's camping oasis; you can look up and actually see stars!
