New Café Opening in One of Portland’s Underrated Culinary Hotspots

A new restaurant is about to open its doors in the Portland Arts District.

Portland's newest spot, Nom Café, will be opening at 23 Forest Ave, nearly all the way up the hill to Congress St. The location has long been a restaurant space, having last been the Korean spot, Yobo. Yobo closed its doors earlier this year.

The culinary sleuths over at Portland Food Map got a hold of a sample menu from Nom Café. I must say, it looks delicious. According to Portland Food Map, the menu is inspired by dishes from the Balkans. Some of the dishes on the menu include delicious-sounding egg plates, Bulgarian salad, mushroom toast, crumpets, and crispy egg plant. I have absolutely no idea what Bulgarian salad is, but I do basically love every salad that has a country in the title. So, I have high hopes.

Nom Café should be a nice addition to the Portland Art's District, a neighborhood with a rich culinary vibe. It's also an area that gets quite a bit of foot traffic, especially when the "First Friday" Art Walk is in full effect.

According to Portland Food Map, Nom Café plans to be open for breakfast and lunch. They include that it will be open Thursday through Sunday, at least to start. You can find the entire Portland Food Map writeup here.
