The Portland Press Herald recently reported that the Portland Police Department, in a time when finding new recruits is becoming increasingly more difficult, is considering loosening it's hiring policies to include non citizens and people who have used marijuana.

Mayor Ethan Strimling approved the changes, and said he doesn't believe mistakes a person made in the past should hinder that person from getting a job.

The police department says non citizens qualify if they have a permanent right to work in the U.S. while marijuana users will be considered on a case by case basis.
