Red Sox Under Investigation for Stealing Signs

The Boston Red Sox are under investigation by Major League Baseball for stealing signs from opposing pitchers during their 2018 World Series championship run.

The investigation was announced after three unidentified sources told The Athletic that Red Sox players would visit the team's video replay room during games, where a team staff member would give them the pitcher's signal sequence to bring back to the dugout.

Players often communicate with one another using hand signals. In this instance, members of the Red Sox staff were allegedly able to use the video replay room to learn the signals of pitchers and catchers from the opposing team. Armed with that knowledge, base runners were then allegedly able to relay pitch information to batters.

"We were recently made aware of allegations suggesting the inappropriate use of our video replay room," the Red Sox said in a statement issued Tuesday. "We take these allegations seriously and will fully cooperate with MLB as they investigate the matter."
