Both medicinal and recreational use of marijuana is now legal here in Maine, but as we all know, it's still illegal at the federal level.

According to WGME 13, the Maine Supreme Judicial Court will soon decide if Mainers' health insurance will pay for medical marijuana if it's prescribed by a doctor.

This case arose out of the question of whether worker's compensation insurance provided to paper mill employees here in Maine should be required to pay for medicinal cannabis treatments.

Supporters argue that opioids are covered by insurance when prescribed by doctors, and marijuana should be too.

Opponents say that because cannabis is still a schedule 1 drug under US law, insurance companies shouldn't be forced to cover it.
