Shout Out to Maine Waste Management Workers
Today I was reading through the shout out section on our site, and I read one from Marc Thomas in Derry, who sent a shout to all of the workers at Cassella Waste Management in Portland.
It occurred to me the people who pick up our waste and recyclables are also on the list of those putting their lives on the line for us.
Things we throw away that seem harmless to us may put these people at risk—even the men and women who hall medical waste, who could be exposed to hazardous material.
However, we both know that there is no way they can stay home and quarantine the way most people can, and that the job NEEDS to be done.
So, please, next time you see a Waste Management worker, give them the 'head nod of respect.'
They need it just as much as the rest of the essential employees.
