South Portland Firefighters Play Hockey to Raise Money

For the third year in a row, the South Portland Firefighters will be giving another meaning to "checks for charity".

Each year, Local 1476 (SoPo firefighters) contributes thousands of dollars to several charitable organizations like the South Portland Food Cupboard, Portland Firefighter's Burn Foundation, Scarborough PD Explorer Post, South Portland Little League, and several more through their charitable funds account. They even donated to the Q's Cans for a Cure this year, delivering a giant check to us in the Maine Mall parking lot. Look at those happy faces!

In March, they're raising money by playing hockey in their event "Checking for Charity" at the Troubh Ice Arena in Portland. Last year, they pulled in over $14,000 for charity with the event.

The south Portland Firefighter and High School Alumni Classic will be March 23rd at 5:00pm, with the Maine Has Been's Former Pro Showdown at 7:00pm.

All event proceeds will go to the South Portland Professional Firefighters Local 1476 Charitable Funds account.
