All summer long, as people have been trying to find alternative workout routines with the gyms being closed or restricted to limited capacities, the local area rec departments have come to the rescue with outdoor activities.

The South Portland Rec Department has been very active, including doing Zumba in the park down by Ocean Ave, with a little help from the Swole Sisters.

This past summer, the ladies and the gentlemen of Zumba had outside socially distant workout / Latin style dance sessions to keep themselves active in a time in which most Americans' would excuse themselves not to be. South Portland resident Katie Crag had this to say about the Zumba program that she has been attending all summer long.

"I've been doing Zumba for over 11 years. The slogan of "exercise in disguise" is so true. Losing yourself in the music and movement for that hour is very freeing. There's no right or wrong moves. When in doubt, shake your booty. It's all about having fun and getting a workout in all at once. "

The Zumba program put on by the swole sisters will continue into the fall and winter months as they move into the Red Bank Community Center. for information on how you can register, check out the Rec Dept Website.
