After 32 Years at Maine’s WMTW Channel 8, Steve Minich is Retiring

For more than three decades, we've watched Steve Minich cover thousands of Maine stories.

Steve was a news anchor in Florida and Ohio, but for over 32 years, he's been a Mainer and has called WMTW, Channel 8 home.

When is Steve Minich's last broadcast on Maine's WMTW Channel 8?

It's fitting that Steve would have a unique retiring day of February 29, 2024 (Leap Day). Steve knows that the job he's had has been amazing. In a press release, he said,

So often I hear, "You’ve seen some great places, done so many fun things,” and while that is true, the bottom line is the people. My most special memories are the many Mainers I have met along the way and the real passion they have for the lives they lead, the products they make, and how they have embraced living here as well.

 

I'm grateful I got to work with Steve for many years.

Every year for at least a half-dozen years, Steve would always be at the Maine Adaptive Ski-A-Thon with me to host a weekend of skiing and fundraising. But the fun was the last day at Sunday River's Chili Cook-Off. That's when we could share a beer, eat some chili, and get silly.

The great part about Steve is that he never stopped working. He never stopped caring about the people he did stories about, and is a genuinely nice guy and great journalist.

Steve has covered thousands of stories from every angle. Storytelling is truly in his blood, as he has done it all (and ate a ton of chili along the way_.
