Every once in awhile, a piece of unique property hits the market, and it's hard to believe something like it could be for sale. In Maine, that could include a custom tree house, an underground bunker, or even an entire island. One of those unique offerings is available right now in Limington, where an entire privately-owned airport is for sale.

According to the Bangor Daily News, the entire Limington Airport could be yours for the right price. It's a substantial piece of property, boasting more than 43 acres of land that features 6 buildings and a nearly 3,000 foot asphalt runway. Some of those buildings are already leased to other businesses, so the new owners will be inheriting tenants and decisions on what to do with one of the few privately-owned airports in Southern Maine.

One of those decisions could include expansion. With Maine becoming more and more popular as a destination for those who live out of state, private airports are becoming more valuable. The Limington Airport features more room to expand the runway as well as add additional hangars for housing of private planes. You can find more details through this listing.

It's rare to see any airports for sale in America, because almost all commercial airports are owned by a United States entity. Several smaller airports exist throughout Maine, serving islands or remote areas with a vital source of transportation. The Limington airport is unique because of its location and proximity to many of Maine's hotspots. The current owner is retiring and is hopeful to sell the airport to someone with passion and vision.
