This Sweet, Deaf Dog Has Spent More Than 400 Days in a Maine Shelter

The kind hearts of people in Maine are constantly on display when it comes to animals in shelters. According to Best Friends Animal Society, Maine saw nearly 20,000 cats and dogs enter shelters in 2022, and 93% of those sweet animals lives were saved. Animal shelters in Maine have become savvy, using many different ways to showcase your new best furry best friend you didn't know you needed.

Which brings the story of Ollie to the forefront. Shared on Facebook by Responsible Pet Care of Oxford Hills, Ollie has spent more than a year in the shelter as his stay has gone beyond 400 days now. RPCOH would love to find Ollie his forever family or person and know that he is truly living his best life somewhere out there.

But Ollie's journey to find that perfect friend has been difficult. Ollie has been adopted twice, only to be returned to the shelter a week later. Along the way, RPCOH has learned important lessons about Ollie and the kind of home he needs to truly thrive.

Ollie is deaf and needs to be the only pet in whichever home he lives in. Ollie is also best suited for a home without small children. Because of his loss of hearing, Ollie's other senses have heightened, leading to some oddly cute behavior, but also some quirks that his forever family will have to adjust to.

But the quirks haven't made Ollie an unhappy pup. He loves to be walked on a leash and carries himself with an undeniable strut. Ollie also loves a good car ride and has plenty of snuggles to give someone out there.
