Watch: Lee Goldberg Remembers the Late Bruce Glasier With Classic Fifth Quarter Open

Do you remember The Fifth Quarter with Bruce Glasier and Lee Goldberg? The show was a recap of local high school sports that aired Friday night on News Center Maine. During football season, it was the one place you could be sure you'd get all the scores and tons of highlights presented with a good dose of humor with Bruce and Lee.

Back when the show was in its heyday, it would always open with some sort of funny introduction. Bruce and Lee were like a comedy team, and their show openings were always entertaining and sometimes hilariously funny.

November 1, 2014, was the day we lost Bruce, and to celebrate Bruce's life and the legacy of his long career as sports director at News Center, Lee Goldberg posted what I think is one of the best Fifth Quarter openings ever.

It opens with Bruce and Lee sitting in a restaurant when they are delivered a letter. You remember letters, right? The letter invited them to be a part of the Ryder Cup, a well-known golf competition between teams from Europe and the United States. But were they really good enough to play?

Here's the video, but keep in mind this was quite some time ago, before HD both on TV and YouTube, so the clarity isn't what we're used to. It's still great though.

If you lived in Maine for a long time, odds are you grew up with Bruce and the rest of the News Center Maine team, watching them every night at six. I sure did, and so did Lee Goldberg back in the day. There was nothing on TV like The Fifth Quarter, except for its predecessor that ran in the 1980s, Sports Overtime. 

Sports Overtime was a live call-in show where Bruce and Bill Green would talk sports with viewers, and it was a lot of fun to watch.
