Ice cream shops are starting to open for the season, so we wanted to where your favorite place to grab a cone is in Maine. Here are the top 5 responses on our Facebook page.

Norway Soft Serve - South Paris

Don't let the name fool you. They were originally in Norway before moving to the former Grand Trunk railroad station in South Paris, but decided to keep the Norway name. It can be confusing since the old railroad signage saying "South Paris" is still on the building. Norway, South Paris, whatever. The ice cream is still great!

Fielder's Choice - Old Orchard Beach, Sabattus, Manchester

That line should tell you everything you need to know. It's at the Sabattus location, but you can also visit them in Old Orchard Beach and Manchester. Maine....not New Hampshire.

Red's Dairy Freeze - South Portland

Spring does not officially begin until Red's opens up for the season. Back in 2010 we all held our breath after a fire closed Red's, but they came back in no time serving their signature cones.

The Ice Cream Dugout - Windham

Baseball and ice cream go hand in hand especially at the Ice Cream Dugout in Windham. Their opening day is the same as the Red Sox.

Gifford's - Auburn, Bangor, Farmington, Skowhegan and Waterville

Gifford's is a Maine staple and you can have it served in a cone at one of their 5 family-owned ice cream stands across the state. The great photo below is of the Bangor location.
