Airbnb Says Big City Families Are Flocking To Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park is one of 13 of the most popular summer destinations across the country for 2021, according to the super popular online marketplace for vacation rentals.

Soon, it will be the summer of 2021, and vehicles packed with families from away who have been looking forward to their vacations will be creating bumper to bumper traffic jams from the I-395 off ramp in Brewer all the way down Routes 1A and 3 to Mount Desert Island.

Airbnb has just released it's summer travel report for 2021, and it tells us that before the COVID-19 pandemic the trend used to be smaller groups of people traveling to the big cities, but this summer it'll be families from urban locations that will travel to rural locations, like those in Maine.

So far this year, 33% of all summer bookings on Airbnb are those with families, those with a small infant or child, a significant increase from 2019 well before the pandemic, and 42 percent of those bookings are in rural locations, mostly within 30 miles of a State or a National Park.

Like Maine's very own Acadia National Park, the only National Park in New England.

• Acadia National Park

2.7 million folks visited Acadia National Park during the pandemic last year and now it's becoming very well known that even more tourists will be in the area this summer.
