Building Owner Looking For Artist To Replace Mural In Portland
In 1985 Portland artist Chris Denison created a mural on the side of the building at 80 Exchange Street. It was a representation of the old U.S. postal building that used to be across the street.
In April it was announced that the long standing mural has to come down as part of an 80 million dollar renovation project.
Last week Fathom Companies, who own the building at 80 Exchange Street, began looking for a Maine based artist, or artists to create a new mural on the historic building. The company is looking to enhance an already thriving public space with public art that is non commercial, beautiful and thought provoking.
The company says they're willing to pay the artist, or artists $80,000.
