Maine has a desert, complete with sandy dunes and a fiberglass camel, and it's not far from the bustling Freeport downtown.

Deserts are barren land with little or no vegetation. However, the Desert of Maine started out as healthy farm land. Over the course of 100 years, the family who owned the plot failed to properly maintain the land which led to the exposure of the glacial silt under the topsoil. The land was officially abandoned in 1919 and turned into a tourist destination in 1925.

It's weird, it's different, and it's an instagrammer's dream. Have you visited the Desert of Maine?
