Stung By a Maine Jellyfish? DON’T PEE ON IT! Here’s Why
Are you goddamn kidding me?! My entire childhood revolved around the idea that I knew what to do if somebody at the beach was stung by a jellyfish. I'll tell you what not to do; PEE ON IT!
Should you pee on a jellyfish sting?
Absolutely not. Nope. According to people that actually know what they're talking about like scientificamerican, peeing on it will actually make the sting worse. My entire life has been a lie. I'm going to need MORE therapy after learning this one guys.
Why does urine help a jellyfish sting?
Sodium. Depending on your diet of course will depend on the amount of sodium you'll have in your urine and most of the time I bet it's not enough.
What happens to you when you get stung by a jellyfish?
"Once stung, angry, red, whiplike lash marks mar the skin. The pain radiates from the sting site and starts to itch, burn and throb as it blisters. Scratching it, though, can make the pain worse, because rubbing activates the nematocysts, which release more venom" -scientificamerican
