Family Fun: Free Outdoor Movies in the Park in Portland, Maine This Summer
It’s finally warm enough to spend time outdoors in Maine and since we don’t get many months of this privilege, it’s best we make the most of it. That means campfires when the sun goes down, walks at night to hear the peepers, and movies in the park.
I love a good drive-in movie but it can get expensive and they’re late at night which makes it tough for families to enjoy.
Outdoor Movie Nights in Portland, Maine
The South Portland Cape Elizabeth Community Chamber & Partners are hosting multiple movies in the park this summer for all families to be able to enjoy. Starting on Tuesday, July 19, the movies in the park will kick off for the summer with The Croods: A New Age playing at Bug Light Park in South Portland.
The event is completely free to the public and starts at 6:30 p.m. with movies starting around 8 p.m. once it starts to get a little dark. There’s no need to register or RSVP, you can just show up! The event page on Facebook recommends getting there early as parking is limited but if you do get there and can’t find a spot, there will be additional parking at the Southern Maine Community College campus.
The nights will be filled with raffles, food, beverages, movies, and family fun for all ages while being inclusive for everyone as a free event. The following showings will be held on Tuesday, July 26 at Bug Light Park and on Thursday, August 2 at Redbank Community Center.
If you’re looking for a way to spend time outdoors in a family-friendly environment, these are definitely events to check out.
