Hotels Asking for More Quiet Nights…. In The Old Port
The new luxury hotels in the Old Port want the city of Portland to look into the noise ordinance in an effort to keep their guests happy, according to the Portland Press Herald.
The Portland daily newspaper reported The historic Old Port has been, for as long as I can remember, a place where you can go from bar to bar, and hang with friends. It's also known for some violence and excessive noise.
Lately, The new hotels, that were built right in the heart of the party zone, want bar-goers to quiet down so their guests can sleep. So now the Portland Police Department and the City Council will reconvene the city’s Sound Oversight Committee in the coming month to examine complaints from the Portland Harbor Hotel and the Hyatt Place Portland, said Police Chief Michael Sauschuck.
The city says the clubs and bars are mostly following the sound ordinance, but apparently it's not enough.
This should be an interesting battle in the coming months.
