I Can’t Believe I Get to See JoJo Perform Live in Portland, Maine This Week
Tuesday night (April 25) is going to be an insane throwback girls night with JoJo leading the squad in a full singalong. Yeah, JoJo, the teenage pop star every 13-year old girl wanted to be in the early 2000s is taking the stage at Port City Music Hall and I'm going with all my gal pals for what's sure to be an stellar evening.
You might remember JoJo from her hits like Leave (Get Out), Baby It's You, Too Little Too Late, and How to Touch a Girl. After a tumultuous few years with her record label and a bad contract (I'm simplifying the ordeal... It was quite the hellish situation), she's back with new music for the 13-year old fan who grew up and needs a new soundtrack for break-ups, garbage boyfriends, lusty love, and living unapologetically with plenty of f-bombs.
JoJo's new album may have a different sound than her 2000s teen pop, but don't worry, you'll still get to hear your favorites in concert. I've done the research and her setlist is equal parts nostalgia and new tunes.
God, I wanted to be JoJo so bad. I brought magazines into my hair dresser so she could make me look like JoJo. I desperately searched TJ Maxx, Fashion Bug, and Limited Too for cropped varsity jackets, tube tops with skirts attached, and pink denim jumpsuits. I may even have some old homemade videotapes of my own JoJo music videos. Maybe.
If you're looking for me on Tuesday night, I'll be scream-singing the lyrics to Baby It's You with a Tito's Vodka drink in my hand trying to duplicate the music video choreography with all my friends. Come say hello if you can find a natural pause between hair flips.
