Island Treasure Toys, a Maine-based family-run specialty toy store, is expanding with a new place in Freeport.

The business has five stores as of 2024, with locations in Yarmouth, Bath, Kennebunkport, Brunswick and Freeport.

So, two places in Freeport now? Not quite.

According to a Facebook post from Island Treasure Toys, the store at 20 Bow Street, which opened in 2011, closed its doors for good on September 15, 2024.

But fear not, there's a happy ending to the story.

Back in July, the local toy store revealed in a Facebook video that they would be moving right down the road to 55 Main Street.

This spot is a historic building that was once Freeport's public library, according to the Historical Marker Database.

It was also the location of the former Abercrombie & Fitch and some other retail stores.

The grand opening for the new Island Treasure Store spot will be Saturday, October 5, and both Elsa from "Frozen" and Bluey will be there for your kids to meet.

The business said this new spot is about two times the size of the Bow Street location and offers more accessibility for all.

You can take a peek inside the expanded store that is filled with toys and some play areas for the kiddos.

Check out an Instagram video that does a brief walkthrough:

According to Island Treasure Toys' website, the business was founded by Anita and Jim Demotropoulosin in 2001 as a home operation before expanding to its first storefront in Yarmouth in 2002.

It wasn't until about eight years later that Island Treasure Toys opened its second location in Freeport, the website stated, and in the years that followed, more stores opened up on the coast of Maine.

In 2019, the business passed hands to Emily & Paul Drappi, but Island Treasure Toys has continued to provide a fun and charming location for kids' toys.

And its new Main Street location is bound to become a favorite stop for everyone who loves playtime.

One more stop to visit on the Freeport shopping trip!
