There are few restaurants still standing in all of Maine that have been a staple of a city like Luiggi's Pizzeria is to Lewiston. For more than seventy years, the restaurant has been slinging their signature meatballs, pizzas and sandwiches to generations of families that keep showing up.

But like so many restaurants, Luiggi's wasn't immune to issues. There has been whispers throughout the city that the legendary pizzeria was close to permanently closing. But according to the Sun Journal, that won't be happening. In fact, Luiggi's is preparing for a whole new era.

New owners for Luiggi's are officially in place. That would be Zach and Keshia Pratt, who ran the Boba restaurant in Lewiston through 2023. The Pratt family understand that they are taking over a restaurant that carries weight in the twin cities and plan to honor the tradition of the seven-decade pizzeria.

Much needed renovations are ongoing to the restaurant. But when it does open, hungry customers will still find the same craveable pasta and meatballs, pizza and the iconic "Fergy" sandwich that Luiggi's has been known for.

But if you're going to take over a legendary restaurant and ensure it will last for another seventy years, you'll have some bring something new to the people. Luiggi's isn't ready to say what customers will find when they visit again but there will be new offerings alongside the classics.

Luiggi's Pizzeria is expected to reopen sometime in December with an announcement on what is new coming sometime in November.
