After 47 Years in Business, the Legendary Pizza Joint in Maine is Permanently Closing
There's only a handful of restaurants in Maine that have essentially spanned generations of families. Places where your grandparents started going, your parents kept going, and now you go regularly because the food is just that good.
One of those places in the Portland area has been Pizza Joint. For nearly five full decades, people have sworn that it's the best pizza you can find anywhere in southern Maine. Their locations in Portland and South Portland have been a constant for people to get their pizza fix.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end at some point. Pizza Joint announced on Facebook that they will be closing both their Portland and South Portland locations permanently. While a reason was not specifically given, the owners toiled with the decision before making their announcement.
While there are plenty of other places to get pizza throughout the Portland, South Portland, and Cape Elizabeth area, losing Pizza Joint will hit differently for many. From birthday pizza parties to just a quick dinner on a busy night, Pizza Joint has felt like home for a lot of people for a very long time .
That's not to say there haven't been challenges in recent years for Pizza Joint. Like most restaurants, increasing costs for both ingredients and labor have forced prices to change.
Regardless of the reasons behind the scenes that led to the closure, Pizza Joint penned this short note to its loyal customers:
"Thank you all for your loyalty and kindness over 47 great years. We couldn't have done it without you"
Pizza Joint will be closing their Portland and South Portland locations permanently on Sunday, April 14.
