I was recently looking up where to find gold in New England, and I found a really unique area and experience known as Coos Canyon (campground and swimming area).

To see a list of all of the top gold-panning locations in New England, click here.

Coos Canyon is listed as one of the best places to find gold in all of Maine and New England. But Coos Canyon is way cooler than just a stream with small gold nuggets in the water.

Coos Canyon has a campground, waterfalls, cliff-jumping spots, and some of the best swimming holes in Maine.

The campground at Coos Canyon is loaded with amenities and fun.

At the campground in Byron, you can choose between tent sites, RV sites, cabins, and lean-tos.

All sites seem very reasonably-priced (with tent sites starting at $40/night). All sites come with the typical fire pit, picnic table, and a short walk to the riverfront.

The campground has restrooms and showers too. But if you stay at Coos Canyon, you will likely want to do some exploration, swimming, and gold-panning.

The Coos Canyon area offers on-site and nearby swimming holes to jump in or splash around, as well as waterfalls, caves, and other cool activities to try.

Check out all of the activities here.

Excluding swimming and cliff jumping, one of the biggest reasons people go to Coos Canyon is to try and find gold.

According to a Gold Prospects article, one of the best areas to look for gold is in Byron, Maine (where Coos Canyon Campground is located). The town has a "great track record since 1849, causing some to believe that the river runs through a yet-to-be-discovered gold vein."
