Did anybody else notice the lack of fairy houses in the woods of Mackworth Island this year?!

Typically, there are at least a few built and tucked back in there, but lately I haven't been able to find even one.

For those of you who may not know the magic that is the fairy houses of Mackworth Island, let me explain what they are.

The meaning behind the man-made fairy village is to reconnect with the earth and re-kindle the feeling of being a kid again. Visitors collect all the building supplies they can find on their hike, but they must be from the earth.

Then they make their own version of what they think a fairy house would look like, and it's friggen adorable.

For example, some people make mini log cabins out of tiny branches and rocks, while others use berries for decoration! You can read more about that part here.

I'm unsure the reason behind the lack of fairy house building this year, and maybe somebody reading this right now will be able to answer it, but this makes me sad.

This is such a big part of the island, and I hope that if you're reading this you'll want to go over sometime soon and help re-build the fairy village legacy!
