Maine may not have a huge population, but we do have an elderly one, so our doctors are quite busy, and apparently, quite unpopular.

Healthgrades and the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) compiled a report from 8.4 million reviews of providers in an effort to offer insight and hopefully motivate change in health care.

The report had a number of surprising findings such as male providers often received higher ratings than female providers, and negative reviews often noted wait times, visit times, and support staff up to three times more often than in positive reviews.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that people are more likely to pen a complaint than a praise so things likely aren't as bad as they may seem. And they seem pretty bad.

Maine took the last spot in the country with the lowest average rating for doctors. Maine took #50 when it came to bedside manner, #50 with communication, and #50 with skill and care quality. In contrast, New Jersey came in #1 in all those categories and received the highest average rating for doctors across the country.

Are we just crabby patients or are things really that bad up here? Have you ever had a really bad experience? Let us know via the app!
