Long holiday weekend with some big movies opening, including 'Tarzan' and 'The BFG' with Stephen Speilberg. Are they good?

Let's start with 'The BFG' based on the classic by Roald Dahl directed by the one and only Stephen Speilberg. BFG stands for Big Friendly Giant who refuses to eat children, like all the other giants. Movie Mom points out, it's not one of his more exciting books like others ( Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda,James and the Giant Peach, The Witches, Fantastic Mr Fox, The BFG, The Twitsand George's Marvellous Medicine) but she really enjoyed it.

It's in 3D, so it can be a tad intense for the little ones, Movie Mom suggested 7 and up.

Then it's the movie a lot of us were looking forward to, 'The Legend of Tarzan'. Movie Mom said, it's not really that good. She pointed out some of the parts she did enjoy which included the tree swinging and shirtless  Alexander Skarsgård...but beyond that - not very good at all. That's a bummer...I love the story.

Movie Mom did point out an interesting and disturbing trend in hero movies - the heroes are always so bummed out. Movie Mom is not enjoying that trend.
