Beat the Heat at 5 Portland, Maine, Bars Serving Frozen Cocktails

We're used to hot and humid summers here in Maine, but usually for a small stretch of a few days at a time. The summer of 2024 has been ridiculous, with temperatures regularly in the 90s and relative humidity levels off the charts for nearly two weeks straight.

Air conditioners are cranking and some places are experiencing brownouts, like me. For the past three evenings, the power in our house has blinked on and off, likely due to people turning on their air conditioners, causing a drop in voltage for the area.

This summer has not been fun for people who don't like the heat and humidity, but there's a way you can get a little relief at these five Portland bars and restaurants serving frozen cocktails.

Root Wild Kombucha - 135 Washington Avenue, Portland

Root Wild Kombucha is serving up watermelon lime kombucha slushies, and they made a fun, green-screen video of a customer taking a vacation after tasting one.

Terlingua Restaurant & Market - 40 Washington Avenue, Portland

I'm not sure what this delicious-looking concoction is at Terlingua's, but it looks really good.

Freedom's Edge Cider Tasting Room - 31 Diamond Street, Portland

I'm not a beet drinker, but I do like a good hard cider, and when you turn it into a slushie, I'm all on board. One is a margarita and the other is a prickly pear lemonade.

Rigby Yard - 50 Wharf Street, Portland

Rigby Yard is named after the CSX rail yard in South Portland and they are serving their signature frozen cocktails: Frosè & Frozen Bourbon Peach Lemonade.

Wilson County Barbecue - 82 Hanover St Suite 8, Portland

Man, these drinks keep getting better and better. This is Wilson County Barbecue's blueberry mojito slushie. Bring it on!
