This Portland, Maine, Market Gets Top 100 Score in Barstool Pizza Review, and I’m Conflicted
I'll start by saying this. Dave Portnoy has a very specific type of taste when it comes to pizza, and if it's even remotely out of that realm, he throws a fit. From everything I've seen, it's a simple crispy thin-ish crust with a little cheese and tame sauce.
Please don't get me wrong here – Monte's has fantastic pizza. But I think it's only natural to wonder if it's really good enough to have made it into Dave's top 100 scoring shops on Barstool. We love to see it regardless, and I'll always support local, but I just want to know what you think about this. I'll tell you what I'm thinking.
He gave the place a 8.4 out of 10 score, and according to newscentermaine, Monte's ranks in the top 100 out of all 1,568 pizza reviews Portnoy had done by the time of that visit. If you haven't seen the video of the entire review, here you go:
I'll just say it: I think that Slab in Portland should have made this list as well. I know Dave doesn't like thick pizza, but I'm obsessed with the slices from Slab. The thing is, when you order a "slice" at this place, it's really like its own mini-pizza. You get a run for your money, and it's the perfect take in my eyes on what a deep dish pizza should taste like.
