More than a year after a fire forced the former Colucci's Market to close, the Hilltop Superette opened its doors on Munjoy Hill Monday morning to the delight of east Portland patrons, according to the market's Facebook page.Real estate manager Bill Simpson told WCSH that when he purchased the former Colucci's Market that was damaged by an intentionally set fire in February 2013, his goal was to reopen the market with more food products. But Simpson also told the Portland television news station that he wanted to create a bigger market with a larger kitchen, a new deli counter with fresh local meat without sacrificing the former market's tin ceilings, light fixtures and the old counter where baked goods are sold.

On the Hilltop Superette's Facebook page, the owners wrote on Monday afternoon, "Wow! So far we have had an amazingly exciting "Soft" open! So exciting that we will be running a limited dinner menu so we can catch up for tomorrow! But don't worry- the beer is still ice cold!"
