Portland's growth has brought new developments over the last 100 years. Buildings are torn down, new structures are built in their place, and the skyline changes each year. Here are a few of the buildings that have been demolished in Portland and what now stands in their place.

There's lots of debate recently surrounding the development of a historic area in Portland and how future changes might impact the view. As far as I know (and I don't know much about Question 2...That's for the political professionals to handle) this project isn't talking about demolition just yet, but it is addressing how Portland's "view" might change. A search on MaineMemory.net, one of my favorite local websites, turned up a shocking number of structures that have been torn down over the last hundred years to make way for new developments, changing the view of Portland for future generations.

Here's the best (or worst?) of the buildings that have been demolished. Do you remember any buildings that have been replaced by new structures?
